3341. metanoia - change of mind, “repentance” ( see the note below w/ the asterisks ** )
metánoia – literally, "a change of mind" ("after-thought");
Metanoia... True Biblical Repentance is not what you have been taught that it is.
Metanoia, true biblical repentance, essentially means "a paradigm shift that occurs in the mind leading to belief"
in short, as an “action”, it just means:
>> to Believe on Him / His Testimony, His Word / believe on whom He has sent <<.
which 'translates' into the way you perceive reality from that point on…
There is no english equivalent to Metanoia, thus the English translations are usually not accurate in these instances.
This word is extraordinary and peculiar, having a vast depth of meaning and ways it can be applied,
All of which, are inspiring.
**Note that Strong's Concordance uses the KJV as a template/baseline, so even when you look up the words on Strong's, they add in the KJV replacement words/translations and lump them together with the original meanings, but that is an erroneous way of extracting the true meaning of words, so just keep that in mind when using Strong's
(They admit this)
it more closely relates to a mental metamorphosis than it does to "repentance", repentance can be a result of Metanoia, but repentance is the feeling of sorrow or remorse from the past, the true definition of biblical "repentance" (Metanoia) is much more profound, inspiring and encouraging, it does not encourage condemnation, fear, or doubt. It's a realization that leads to change that is brought about by the Ruach HaKodesh, not by our own works or toiling, but strictly and solely through belief, by grace through faith.
Metanoia is greater than "repentance" - It is a realization that occurs because of Revelation. Metanoia (commonly mistranslated as "repentance" in the English Translations) and Revelation are both interwoven terms. Metanoia is a paradigm shift, a moment of clarity that allows one to see the truth, it is what allows you to truly Believe on the one whom He has Sent, it is what allows you to finally have faith in Him, it is what gives you the ability to realize that Yahuah's word is the script that forms our reality.
Revelation leads to Metanoia, which in turn leads to more Revelation, which continues to deepen your Metanoia (changing of mind) It is a process that begins at a place of completion in Spirit, yet slowly translates into how your mortal being interacts with the world around you, it finally becomes animated by His Spirit in you, which is given to you upon believing. Though we begin completed, our minds do not realize this until Metanoia reaches a certain depth, which is all brought about through Revelation.
it begins at Revelation, it begins at His Finished Works and it continues on as Abba chisels away, slowly but surely, at your impurities. It begins at completion, yet it continually deepens your understanding... It is NOT a work, it is a true realization brought about through Revelation, brought about through Yahuah's Divine Orchestration of the events in your life.
Once you reach the beginning of Metanoia (the changing of the mind, a shift in perception and awareness) from that point on, you have the proper lens of which to view reality from, which includes your actions, morals, the way you treat people, and your ability to detect deceptions and lies, etc. it doesn't necessarily change your actions, realize this, but it does change your perception of them and allows you to see things for what they are... Our bodies are flesh, and they are subjected to lots of corruption that is woven into our subconscious through the knowledge of good and evil, we don't necessarily have control over ourselves because our flesh is fallen. Metanoia really goes on and on what all this entails, it is not limited to mere repentance, where one "feels sorrow for their mistakes" - in fact, true repentance can only happen as a byproduct of Metanoia/Revelation, but repentance seems to be at the very lowest spectrum of what metanoia encompasses.
The church system and pharisaical deceptions would all implode if people realized this, so I'm lead to believe that this is all by design, as the word repentance has become a distortion of it's actual true meaning and thus weaponized against us, keeping the believer in the lowest state of grief/shame/guilt/fear/doubt as the cycle of 'repentance' leads the believer into either condemnation or self-righteousness, when this word is improperly used as a lens, it causes the person to become puffed up and view everyone through the lens of the curse of the law, judging everyone around them, and themselves, based on their own dead works of the flesh, or on the other end of the spectrum, it causes the believer to live in fear and doubt of His Finished Works.
What is metanoia then? How do we detect it? How do we know we have it? It is a shift in the way you perceive reality, it is the law written in your heart finally learning how to translate itself through your actions, not a checklist but it is detected by the transformation itself, it is what has compelled your actions, the Spirit in you that animates you when you see a homeless person and are lead to talk with them or give them food or money, it is the Spirit that animates you that is driven by pure Empathy and love for your neighbor, it is the still small voice that tells you to comfort someone who is suffering, and it is the Ruach HaKodesh that does ALL the work through us. If you believe in His word its because Metanoia has begun (from a state of completion, slowly but surely deepening your awareness of it's process, but you begin completed, saved, redeemed, holy and beloved in His sight from the very start of it, this all occurs in the Realm of The Spirit, and is not necessarily detectable through the senses)
Metanoia is the realization, brought about through Revelation, it is the only thing that will ever allow you to finally Rest in Him and see His work as Finished, but it starts with a paradigm shift, eventually you are no longer being driven by the letter, but by the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life, you can see Metanoia growing overtime as you learn more and more through personal Revelation. Keep in mind that Metanoia begins at completion in Spirit, yet pride can hinder the deepening process so many get stuck right past the entrance and go no further. That doesn't mean they aren't saved, it just means the Joy of Yahuah isn't as able to be fully experienced by them because of limiting and hindering beliefs.
I know this from experience, I can only say this because I was stuck at many points in the process and didn't go any further because of distorted beliefs and misunderstandings. Eventually, thankfully, Abba chiseled away at those things and revealed more to me which deepened my Metanoia.
It allows you to agree when The Ruach HaKodesh convicts you of righteousness and you no longer care if 99% of believers don't agree with you, because you know what you have been shown, and you know that the word backs it up. It allows you to finally realize that He will never leave your or forsake you.
There is none righteous, no not one... Our works are filthy rags. But Metanoia allows you to realize that He wasn't lying when He said that our flesh was crucified with Mashiach, and that it is no longer I who live, but Mashiach who lives in me.
Rest. Yahuah's got this. You were sealed by the Ruach HaKodesh of promise until the day of redemption. The world doesn't understand, but that doesn't mean that you can't, Metanoia is a continual process, not through toiling or human effort, but through simply being receptive. It requires us to lean not on our understanding and from a state of peace and completion we see the Revelations of Yahuah being provided to us at His perfect timing. Rest
Metanoia means "a change of mind" or in other words "developing a new way of thinking" regarding Yah/Messiah and regarding sin itself, it is a new lens which you perceive reality through, not a work.
Since the dawn of man and since Adam bit the apple, man has truly believed that God is against them, whether directly or indirectly, they believe God is a cruel taskmaster, and this is hardwired into our very beings from the knowledge of good and evil. The word commonly translated as repent essentially means "to change your mind about how you view God/Messiah" "to realize that He is for you not against you" "to realize that your sin has been nailed to the cross" etc. it means to change your mind and finally have faith and trust that He is for you.
It's a shift in paradigm, a realization, NOT an act, NOT a performance... it's a noun, not a verb. This is disturbing to realize, because this goes to show how this mistranslation has only pushed man farther away from God than we were before. This mistranslation has caused more people to reject God, thinking that they had to perform or undo the sin that is in our members through our own efforts, this is the very reason people reject God and the very reason that most who are in the faith have elements or cycles of condemnation / self-righteousness. Both are part of the same false paradigm, and this cycle will never bring you closer to God in itself it will only put you at odds with Him from your own perspective.
Realizing this has been very helpful for me in understanding Him, as not only does it properly portray God's true character as He describes Himself (a loving Father, not the cruel taskmaster that our fallen flesh wants to believe that He is), but it also paints a clear picture of Messiah's sacrifice as "Finished Work" and why it had to be that way.
God never wanted to reconcile Himself to us, He always was reconciled to us, He wanted us to reconcile ourselves to Him, because of our erroneous thinking about Him.
He would've never given His only begotten Son to us as a sacrifice if He wasn't already reconciled to us, the reconciliation was from us to Him, not from Him to us. He gave Him to us as a sign of His love for us, not just because we needed a savior, but because He wanted to show us how He felt about us and how much He loved us, because no one really understood that the knowledge of good and evil is what sowed that seed of confusion into us, it wasn't Him, it was our perception of Him that needed correction. This is what metanoia means, to change your mind about how God feels about you, and have faith that He has got you no matter how well, or poorly, you are performing.
It's a very strange thing to realize, because it instantly puts you against the grain with nearly every biblical teaching that is circulating, and it's hard because you will receive so much hate, criticism and strawmen-type arguments when trying to tell people about this.
We so desperately want something to boast about, not intentionally but we are hardwired this way... but the only thing the bible tells us to boast about is our weakness and infirmities, and the cross...
Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Galatians 6:14 But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
because by doing so you are humbled and you are able to properly understand how the metanoia allows you to see it all for what it is.
If you have changed your mind about God, you reconcile yourself to Him, who was already at ease and at peace with you.
True biblical repentance is a realization, not a work, not a checklist, not making yourself more righteous through your own efforts, it is total and utter reliance on His Finished Works, His Mercy, His Grace, His Love... having nothing of yourself to boast about other than your weaknesses/infirmities, and His finished works (how it encompasses you, your weaknesses and your infirmities, how the blood totally covers you)
From this position you can really see that a majority of pastors, teachers, etc. are pharisees whether they are aware of it or not. You have to realize that without the cycle of condemnation/repentance (which ultimately can only lead to self-righteousness at best) the gov. funded churches would suddenly cease to exist... Coincidence? I think not.
I always pray for Abba to correct me if I'm wrong, and I have come along way by leaning not on my understanding, even looking back at my older prayers I can see such a big difference in how I understand things.
Leaning not on your understanding is so important yet it seems to be one thing that many forget to do.
“repent of your sins” is not biblical, I do not discourage it, but it is NOT what Metanoia means. It means to change your mind, to change the way you think and perceive reality in accord with Yah’s word.
The human condition that comes from the knowledge of good and evil is a very strange phenomena, it is actually very disturbing, but thanks and praise be to Yahuah who gave us His Son to right all of our wrongs... To reconcile us to Him. HallaluYahuah
Amazing, thank you for sharing this! Jesus is King! 🕊️🕊️🕊️
